The rapid increase in the sales of SUVs in India has prompted Michelin to come up with a range of tyres that would give buyers the confidence to take their SUVs over the beaten path. The LTX Force is a set of all-terrain tyres with big grooves and water pockets for effective water dissipation, and large blocks for traction on sand, slush and gravel.
The tyre width of the all-terrain LTX Force ranges from 215/65 R16 to 265/65 R17 to cover the needs of most ladder-frame vehicles in addition to serving the Nissan Terrano and the Renault Duster. Owners of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza can also switch to the LTX Force at the cost of a 3 per cent error in the speedo and odometer reading because of the taller side wall. Thar owners aren't left in the dark either, and there is a 31/10.5 R15 spec LTX, which is almost the same size as the 265/75 R15 specification.
Here's the list of LTX Force tyre sizes and compatible SUVs:
215/65 R16: Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano
235/70 R16: Mahindra Scorpio, Tata Hexa, Sumo Grande, Safari, Safari Storme, Force One, Force Gurkha 2WD
235/75 R15: Mahindra Scorpio, Bolero, Tata Safari, Mitsubishi Pajero, Hyundai Terracan
245/70 R16: Ford Endeavour (old), Force Gurkha 4WD, Isuzu MU-7
255/65 R16: Upsize for 235/70 R16
265/65 R17: Toyota Fortuner
31/10.5 R15: Mahindra Thar
Mohan Kumar, commercial director, Michelin India said, “The SUV market is one of the fastest growing segments in India. Industry estimates indicate one in four vehicles sold last year was an SUV and as more Indians opt for SUV’s, this segment is estimated to continue growing, both in cities and upcountry towns. Our LTX Force is an all-rounder and is ideal for SUV owners who regularly use their vehicle on both paved and unpaved road. Innovation is at the heart of our product development and this tyre is a perfect example of it, where we showcase a seamless transformation from track to road. By using this range, the SUV users in India will benefit from the international technology that has enjoyed numerous podium finishes at gruelling all terrain competitions such as Rally WRC.”
